Brown Sugar-Broiled Angel food

1 Jun

A butter/brown sugar mixture broiled on angel food cake? Tell me your mouth’s not watering! This desert is easy to prepare and doesn’t take long. Definitely a summer favorite. And it’s one to keep in your back pocket if you need something unique and impressive in a short time. (Heck, if you’re really in a hurry you can even use a store-bought angel food cake!)

Prepare and slice an angel food cake.

Arrange slices on a cookie sheet (I line it with foil).

Combine:

1 stick (1/4 c.) butter, softened
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/4 – 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon (adjust this to your preference)

(I prepare these amounts for 6 generous slices of angel food cake – adjust accordingly.)

Only coat the number of slices you’re planning to serve – this isn’t really a dessert you save in a tupperware because it’s so much better freshly boiled. If you make extra mixture/cake, save them separately, and broil them when you’re ready to eat.

I usually coat only the large exposed sides of the cake.

Broil for 2 – 4 minutes or until the mixture is golden and bubbly – do not burn!

I like this cake with ice cream (and Mrs. Richardson’s caramel topping!), but you can also make some kind of cream cheese mixture to dollop on top.

It’s so simple, and still it can be elegant – even on these paper plates!
